The Fun Begins!

Today's the day!  and when registration opens, the atmosphere will surely be electric --  don't miss the opening events or the first keynote speaker Li-Young Lee -- tell us about your first day's experiences here in St. Louis --  first-time conference goers, what's making an impression on you?

  1. I am flying solo and am feeling kind of lonely. I wish there was more opportunities that forced us to get to know some people instead of attending sessions and leaving. Maybe on the first day, have the "singles" get together in a group for a group game or something? Anything?

  2. Also, to add to that last note, I think people would be more likely to come if they felt like they had some kind of connection to someone here.

  3. we'll definitely put this issue on the table as we plan for next year's convention -- also, any of the Sigma Tau Delta board members (they have ribbons on their badges) would be happy to introduce you to some of the others attending the convention -- so don't hesitate to seek them out and introduce yourself - do let them know you're on your own -- we can help get you more connected pretty quickly!

  4. Anonymous-This year is my second convention, and I am again amazed by the number of interesting and welcoming people that are here. Last year, before coming to convention, I was a bit nervous. I wouldn't consider myself a 'typical' English guy, whatever that means. When I got to convention, though, that reservation evacuated me immediately. Everyone, this year and last, that I have confronted, engaged in conversation with, or even ran into getting on the elevator has been nothing less than friendly and welcoming. The more of the story, I guess, is just talk to everybody. Everybody, and you will without a doubt connect, at minimum, on a conversational level. We all read, and we all write, and we all want to talk about it. That is why we are here, so just talk to people about whatever you want and you will find someone interesting.
